Yamaguchi Operations

In order to respond to domestic and international demand for styrene monomer, Yamaguchi Operations is proactive in its efforts towards both expansion and streamlining of facilities.
Based on the belief that styrene monomer, a widely used industrial material, must be supplied in a stable manner and be of high quality so that it is eco-friendly, Yamaguchi Operations has acquired ISO9001 (Quality Management System) and ISO14001 (Environmental Management System) certifications in order to continue moving steadily towards the future.

Progress of Yamaguchi Operations

Mitsui Chemicals, Inc.

October 1993 The construction of Yamaguchi Styrene Plant was completed (Mitsui Toatsu Chemicals, Inc.).
April 1994 The production of styrene monomer was commenced (240,000 t/year).
October 1995 The capacity was increased up to 260,000 t/year.
October 1996 The capacity was increased up to 284,000 t/year.
February 1997 Yamaguchi Styrene Plant was recognized as a certified business operator according to the High Pressure Gas Control Law.
August 1997 The certification as per the Industrial Safety and Health Act was obtained by Yamaguchi Styrene Plant after an inspection of the operations.
October 1997 Mitsui Toatsu Chemicals, Inc. and Mitsui Petrochemicalt Industries, Ltd. merged to form Mitsui Chemicals, Inc.
October 1999 The capacity was increased up to 294,000 t/year.
April 2000 Yamaguchi Styrene Plant became ISO 9002 certified (Switched over to ISO 9001 later).
June 2001 The certification for the Accredited Safety Inspection Executor under the High Pressure Gas Safety Act was obtained.
March 2003 Yamaguchi Styrene Plant became ISO 14001certified.

Taiyo Oil

December 2003 Taiyo Petrochemical Co., Ltd. acquired the Yamaguchi styrene plant. Shareholders of Taiyo Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (as of the end of March 2009)
January 2004 Yamaguchi Operations established at the request of Taiyo Petrochemical Co., Ltd. to operate Yamaguchi Styrene plant, and production of styrene monomer commenced
June 2006 The certification for the Accredited Safety Inspection Executor under the High Pressure Gas Safety Act was continued.
October 2006 Capacity increase up to 370,000 t/year
April 2011 Taiyo Petrochemical Co., Ltd. purchased Nishioki Utility Ltd.
June 2011 The certification for the Accredited Safety Inspection Executor under the High Pressure Gas Safety Act was continued.
