Taiyo Oil holds "Kids Cooking Battle Presented by SOLATO"

Taiyo Oil recently held the “Kids Cooking Battle Presented by SOLATO” in collaboration with Yamaguchi Broadcasting Co., Ltd. (an affiliate of Nippon Television Network Corporation headquartered in Shunan City, Yamaguchi Prefecture; hereinafter referred to as “Yamaguchi Broadcasting”).
This project was realized based on Taiyo Oil’s wish to hold an event conveying the enjoyment of cooking and eating to the children of Yamaguchi Prefecture, where its Yamaguchi Operations is located. This marks first initiative related to food education for both Taiyo Oil and Yamaguchi Broadcasting.
In the “Kids Cooking Battle Presented by SOLATO,” elementary school children are invited to team up with a guardian and submit an original menu plan. The entries undergo an initial screening, and four winners are selected. The winning teams advance to a round of competition in which the dishes are actually cooked at a screening venue, and this is referred to as the “Final Stage.” The “Final Stage” was held on July 24 (Sun.), and each the four teams that passed the initial screening worked in pairs to cook and serve their dish within a time limit of 90 minutes.                     
The dishes were carefully assessed, and in the end the “Taiyo Oil SOLATO Award,” the highest award, went to the Fujishimas, a parent-child pair from Ube City who prepared “marinated summer vegetables with akamoku (sargassum seaweed),” as well as a paella that the judge Keiichi Hashimoto, a French chef, said was “at a high level.”   
Going forward, Taiyo Oil will continue to carry out regional contribution activities such as these based on educating the children that will be responsible for the next generation.
Footage of the “Final Stage” of the event is scheduled to be broadcast as a television special by the co-sponsor Yamaguchi Broadcasting in August.

“A meal that is fun to make and fun to eat, and lifts the spirits of the whole family!”
