2022.04.21

Taiyo Oil has recently implemented its 15th installment of activities for the “Sun (Taiyo)-nurtured Forest of Ino-cho.”

The company has been carrying out the activities as part of the “Project for Forest Creation in Cooperation with Environmentally Advanced Companies” that has been set forth by Kochi Prefecture. It has been participating in the project since 2006, so this year marks its 17th year of participation. Each year, large numbers of employees and employee family members had been participating as volunteers in forest-development activities within an agreed upon area, which is called the “Sun (Taiyo)-nurtured Forest of Ino-cho.” Nevertheless, the activities were canceled during the past two years due to the COVID-19 crisis.

At an opening ceremony for the activities, Ino-cho Mayor Ikeda welcomed the resuming of the activities after a period of three years. Following this, Taiyo Oil Executive Officer Mamoru Watanabe expressed appreciation regarding the successful continuation of the activities thanks to the receipt of support from relevant parties, and the efforts that are being made to conserve the forests of the region on a day-to-day basis.

During the activities, the participants carried out tree thinning and experienced the sowing of spores for the cultivation of mushrooms on logs while receiving guidance from personnel of Ino-cho, Kochi Prefecture, and the Kochi Central Forestry Association. It seemed that by actually experiencing such operations, the participants were able to learn about the difficulty of performing this type of work. Furthermore, by speaking directly with people who are engaged in this field of work, the participants were able to deepen their understanding regarding the current status and challenges of the forestry industry, and thus very meaningful exchanges took place.

Going forward, Taiyo Oil will continue to carry out environmental conservation initiatives in regions with which it has deep ties due to its business activities.
