On Saturday, December 19th, the awards ceremony for the 27th Ehime Shimbun Primary School Book Report Contest, for which Taiyo Oil is a special cosponsor, was held at Tokyo Dai-ichi Hotel Matsuyama. This year's contest attracted 614 entries from primary school pupils in Ehime prefecture as well as individual based entries, of which 1 was selected for Top Prize, 5 were selected for Special Prizes, 12 for Excellence Prizes, and 18 for Honorable Mentions: a total of 36 awards for which each winner received a certificate.
The Taiyo Oil SOLATO Prize for Best Overall Report was awarded to Kohei Yamamoto, who wrote an essay entitled “Peace is Created Through Education and Bravery.” His essay was based on his thoughts after reading I Am Malala: How One Girl Stood Up for Education and Changed the World by Malala Yousafzai, the youngest-ever Nobel Peace Prize laureate. Yamamoto writes about the importance of bravery for standing up against discrimination and bullying, using words and knowledge to indicate what is wrong.
After the awards ceremony, a gathering was held to which the award winners, their guardians, and other family members were invited. Taiyo Oil's brand character "SOLATO-kun" was also in attendance who further heightened the celebratory mood through a quiz session and other interactions.
Taiyo Oil will continue supporting activities of this kind that aim to bring up upstanding leaders of tomorrow from among today's youth as part of its social action programs.
