Taiyo Oil provided support for the GO-MIX! volunteer beach cleanup held by Nankai Broadcasting Co., Ltd., and 109 volunteers participated in the cleaning activities.

For this “GO-MIX!” event, cleaning activities at a beach in Ehime Prefecture were once again broadcast live as part of a special two-hour radio program. This event was a second installment following activities that were carried out at Karakohama Beach in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture in May this year, and on this occasion, beach cleaning activities were performed at Murohana Park in the town of Ikata-cho, Nishiuwa-gun.

Once again during the holding of the event, thorough measures were taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and these included carrying out advance recruiting targeting only residents of the prefecture, wearing masks, and taking the body temperatures of participants before the activities.

The participants were men and women of a wide range of ages, and they included students of local high schools who participated as part of their extracurricular activities.

During an opening ceremony for the event, Taiyo Oil Executive Officer Mamoru Watanabe offered opening remarks in which he shared his thoughts on the activities. He commented, “While as an energy company, we at Taiyo Oil support society’s basic infrastructure for daily life, there has recently been growing demand for greater consideration regarding decarbonization and other aspects of the environment. Thus, as a company of Ehime Prefecture, we have been participating in GO-MIX! in the hope of preserving beautiful places like Ikata’s Murohana Park for the next generation.”

Following the opening ceremony, Machimi Folk Museum Chief Curator & Director Kenji Takashima provided a study session in which he spoke about the topography and ecosystem of the town of Ikata, and this helped to remind listeners of the importance of environmental protection activities.

During the radio broadcast, both the volunteer site and the radio program were brimming with excitement as Nankai Broadcasting studio personality Akira Isaka moderated, and Hiromi Yano interviewed participants and gave onsite reports.

Going forward, Taiyo Oil intends to continue activities like these in order to help with environmental-conservation initiatives in Ehime Prefecture where Shikoku Operations is located.
