Donation to the Committee Supporting the Nishihara High School Marching Band's Participation in the World Music Contest

2026.07.02

Taiyo Oil made a donation to help cover the cost of transporting musical instruments for the Okinawa Prefectural Nishihara High School Marching Band’s participation in the World Music Contest Kerkrade, to be held in the Netherlands in July 2026. We are pleased to announce that a donation presentation ceremony was held at the Nishihara Town Office.
Held once every four years, the World Music Contest is an international festival known as the “Olympics of Music,” bringing together approximately 20,000 musicians who compete for world titles in the wind band, brass band, marching, and show band categories. Since making its first appearance in 1997, Nishihara High School has participated in seven consecutive editions of the competition and was crowned world champion at the previous event in 2022. Expectations are now high that the band will become the first Japanese entrant to win back-to-back world titles.
This donation forms part of the support that has continued since the days of Nansei Sekiyu and commemorates the company’s joining the Taiyo Oil Group at the end of 2016.
As a company with Okinawa Operations in Nishihara Town, we support the committee’s aims of “sharing the spirit of Okinawa with the world through marching” and “fostering a global outlook among Okinawan high school students,” and are proud to support the local students as they take on the world stage.
