Environmental measures in Okinawa Operations

Effectiveness of environment conservation measures

Measures against water contamination

Okinawa Operations strives to reduce the amount of water contaminants in the wastewater it generates.
Within the premises, there is an API separator and seven sand filter wastewater treatment facilities. All wastewater from the premises goes through the API separator, and after oil is removed, undergoes filtration by sand filters. Wastewater is managed to remain below the regulatory values stipulated by Okinawa Prefecture’s environmental conservation agreement.

Industrial waste and recycling measures

Okinawa Operations works to limit the generation of by-products (waste oil), sludge, waste metals, and other industrial waste and recycle such waste. Industrial waste goes through intermediate treatment (reduction of volume through dewatering, incineration, etc.) and recycling to reduce the volume for final disposal.

Management of chemical substances

Released and transferred quantity of substances defined in the PRTR system (for the fiscal year 2023)

Okinawa Operations is making every effort to maintain/continue to improve proper and effective control of chemical substances by compiling and analyzing the data on the quantity of released and transferred PRTR-specified substances.

  • * If the total released and transferred quantity of a substance is below 0.1 t/year, the substance is omitted.
  • * PRTR (Pollutant Release and Transfer Register) System
It is a system, put in force since April 2001, in which the quantity of chemical substances that are potentially
harmful to human health and to the ecosystem and that are emitted into the environment or transferred as
contained in waste out of a business establishment is reported to the government once a year. This data is
       published by the government.
