Environmental volunteer work

Taiyo Oil is working with Kochi Prefecture, Ino Town, and local residents to jointly promote forest regeneration activities.

Environmental volunteer work

  • Since November 2006, Taiyo Oil has continued to participate in the “Collaborative Forest Restoration with Environmentally Progressive Companies” project of Kochi Prefecture.
“Collaborative Forest Restoration with Environmentally Progressive Companies” of Kochi Prefecture is a project that was initiated in 2005. Being based in the prefecture with the largest forest area in Japan, the “Collaborative Forest Restoration Project,” whose emblem is the “Power of the Forest,” aims to restore the abundant power of forests to absorb CO2 and protect the watershed, through operations such as thinning and planting.
The forest that Taiyo Oil is active in is called the “Sun (Taiyo)-nurtured Forest of Ino Town” and the company undertakes volunteer activities such as tree thinning and planting, and hands-on learning using natural resources.

Volunteers made up of employees of Taiyo Oil and their family members undertake the thinning and pruning of Japanese cedar and Japanese cypress trees, which are about 15 years old in the “Sun (Taiyo)-nurtured Forest of Ino Town.”
This thinning and pruning of trees helps the regeneration of forests since it makes it easier for sunlight to reach the darker parts of forests and thereby promotes tree growth.
